Sarah Raza has recently become Dr. Raza, a transformation accompanied by the most difficult struggle to gain freedom, from being the daughter of a family with uncompromising views on how she must live her life.
As her day at the hospital progresses, she learns what atrocities Karachi, a city where women are seen as mere articles of use, hides under cover of its economic progress.
She is rattled to learn that a woman’s job is to give birth to sons, and failing to do so is punishable. The reality of a patriarchal society is exposed ruthlessly to her as women who have been burnt, beaten, and otherwise tortured by their husbands, in-laws, and –in one case- a rejected suitor, die right in front of her eyes.
Her final test is a five-year-old girl, Iritiqa’s death. Will she give up? Or will she fight for all these women who die in front of her every day?
