Lines Worth Remembering

See All
girlhood for me was a performance, and somewhere beneath the applause, i was already breaking.

Books at Daastan — common questions

Do you deliver across Pakistan?
Yes — by courier, to any address a courier reaches, anywhere in Pakistan. We do not ship outside Pakistan. E-books are not posted at all: you read those the moment you buy them, on any device.
How much does delivery cost?
Rs 400 per order, anywhere in Pakistan — the same whichever courier reaches you. We use Standard (PostEx) and Economy (Pakistan Post), and your address decides which: there is nothing to choose and no surcharge for being outside the big cities. It is charged per order rather than per book, so a parcel of four costs the same to deliver as one, and the exact figure is on the checkout page before you pay. See the shipping policy.
Can I pay when the book arrives?
Yes. Cash on delivery is available across Pakistan — you pay the courier when the parcel reaches you, not before. You can also pay online if you prefer. Either way you get a tracking number by email once the parcel ships.
Can I cancel or return an order?
Before we dispatch it, cancel it yourself from My Orders — instantly, no charge, no deadline. Once the courier has collected it we cannot recall it, and refusing it at the door costs Rs 200. After it arrives you can post it back at your own cost and we refund you in full once it reaches us. E-books cannot be returned. See the refunds policy.
What if the book arrives damaged or it is the wrong one?
That is our mistake, not yours: we refund you and pay for your next delivery. Tell us from the order in My Orders, or write to merasawal@daastan.com.
How many books are there?
642 published titles by 489 Pakistani authors, and new ones go up every week. Everything is in the bookstore.
Is there anything I can read for free?
134 books can be read free, in full, without paying or posting anything — open one and start. Browse the free shelf.
Do you have Urdu books?
189 in Urdu and 453 in English — poetry, novels, essays and children’s books in both.
How much do the books cost?
Print editions run from Rs 20 to Rs 4,800. E-books start at Rs 50. Every price is on the book’s own page before you add anything to a basket, and delivery is added once per order rather than per book.
What kinds of books are there?
22 genres. The largest are Poetry (117), Non-Fiction (52), Contemporary Fiction (45), Fantasy (41), Fiction (35) — and every genre has its own page.
